I AM NOT A BOOKWORM

You know my mom always wants her daughters to be that kind of "guai gia"(obedient child) who does not go out often and dress up herself. She always thinks that spending 1-2 hours in setting hair is just "ai sui"(like beauty) and it is definitely not necessary. But in this world nowadays, this is not the correct concept anymore.

Until now, i still dunno how to make up which i feel very depressed because of this. Together with my specs, it makes people to be very sure that i AM a bookworm. When i heard my friends saying that i really look like a bookworm my heart was squeezing. It certainly is not something that is nice to be heard. I admit the truth but it is still hurt. But if i tell my mom this, she will say: "It's okay to be book worm, as long as you're good in academic, able to compete with others and get a good job."

Okay, getting a good job and remaining competitive are very important, so let's focus on these. I believe in today's world, it is not all about the academic result. Of course, it can certainly help you a lot to get a good start, but to survive i think the important point is - HOW TO CARRY YOURSELF. I feel that this is very important nowadays, which includes how you socialize and mix with others. To socialize, dressing up ourselves is inevitable right? We must dress up to present ourselves, at lease you must be pleasant-looking to present yourself. So, for me, make-up now becomes a kind of respect, while hairstyle will represent your characteristic.

Let's take an example, a 4-flat student who doesn't make-up and have a normal hairstyle, good in paper work but is not strong in communication, with, a 3.5 student who put light make-up, have trendy but neat hairstyle, averagely good in paper work and socialize often. It is very clear that who will be the more competitive one. The 4-flat student presents herself as a bookworm by just looking at her appearance. Though people say appearance might be lying, but it is so true that appearance gives people the first impression on you. That impression might be changed overtime, but it will never be erased. How people look at you is already stucked inside their mind ever since the first time they see you.

I don't want to be the first one, so i am very keen in learning make-up. For hairstyle, i've already got the idea and i think i can handle it. Communication skills i guess i am not that bad, but i need to brush it up as well.

Nowadays, bookworm is not only referring to those always facing books, but is also referring to those who do not know how to dress up nicely and present themselves. I think nowadays it is crucial to have fashion sense as well beside good academic.

I can also be "guai" and trendy at the same time, okay, mom??
